PM Nawaz Sharif chairs cabinet meeting post JIT report
Thursday, July 13th, 2017 11:49:50 by fatimaarshadPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet on Thursday despite the heated political scenario which has been created post Panama case Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) final report. It has been learnt that the PM will be chairing the session and will take the cabinet members into confidence regarding the ongoing political turmoil which is facing the ruling party.
During the session, the members will also discuss the JIT report and its aftermath. A detailed review will help in deciding how to respond to the current situation.
In addition to this, the cabinet members will also discuss a 64-point agenda which encompasses issues such as projects related to power generation and other economic initiatives of the current government, among other things.
Yesterday, the PM held an informal consultative meeting where he was briefed by legal and consultative experts regarding the preparations of the government’s stance on the JIT report. In the meeting, it was decided that that matter of ‘baseless, unwanted remarks’ against the government functionaries will not be tolerated and they would be taken up in the Supreme Court, asking on what grounds these comments were made.
The JIT submitted its final report on the money laundering case against the Sharif family on Monday. After that a situation of political unrest has been observed in the country in which the opposition parties are demanding the resignation of the PM. However, PML-N leaders have taken up the stance that they will contest the report in the SC.
