Medical technician accused of molesting unconscious female patient in Peshawar

A medical technician at the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar, has been arrested for sexually abusing a female patient who was unconscious.

According to the details of the incident provided, the patient, whose identity is being kept confidential, was brought to the LRH for treatment, but during the process, she was molested by a technician employed at the hospital.

According to her reports, the patient had fell unconscious at her home in Batkhela and she was immediately rushed to a health facility there. After seeing her condition, doctors referred her to the LRH for a complete medical examination.

According to the hospital management, the patient was examined at around 5:30 am and one of the doctors recommended that she undergo computerized tomography (CT) scan to decipher what is wrong with her.

The patient was then taken to the radiology room where the rest of her family members were asked to leave due to the harmful exposure to radiology rays. While the test was going on, the girl’s family waited outside.

Just a few minutes into the procedure, the girl’s family raised a hue and cry and said that the medical technician who was conducting the examination, had molested the patient. So far it is not clear how the family got to know about it molestation. According to one account, the family made the allegation on her behalf as she was unconscious. However, another account states that the patient herself had woken up and started shouting, upon which the family members went inside and saw the technician touching her inappropriately.

The FIR registered against the technician at Khan Raziq Police station in Qissa Khwani under sections 354 and 509 of Pakistan Penal Code reads: “I [S] felt K’s hands on my body.”

Meanwhile LRH Director Dr. Khalid Masood has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and if the technician is found guilty, he will be terminated from service.
