Chaudhry Nisar unlikely to resign after being given ‘assurances’ by government
Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 1:16:42 by fatimaarshadThe entire nation was aware of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s discontentment with the government over the Panama case post-JIT decision matter handling. The minister himself had said that he would hold a press conference in which he will disclose certain important matters. Many believed that he would announce his resignation from his post.
However, after several times the press conference was deferred, it is now being said that the differences between Nisar and his party have been resolved and he will not be resigning.
According to the details provided by a senior official of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nisar’s change of heart came when Finance Minister Ishaq Dar assured him that no minister junior to him will be nominated as prime minister in case Nawaz Sharif is disqualified by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.
The same officer reported that Nisar had initially showed his discontent over the prime minister’s plan of appointing any minister, other than the interior minister, as the ‘stopgap arrangement’ if he is disqualified.
Nisar is of the view that he has the first right to the position since he has been the leader of the opposition in the previous tenure of the National Assembly and has been with the federal cabinet since 1990, making him senior than most of his colleagues.
The interior minister is ready to forgo his right only for Shehbaz Sharif and threatened to resign if anyone else was nominated for the position.
However, it appears that he has been assured of his demands being met as the interior minister will not resign.
