Inquiry report reveals more than 12,000 policemen have suspicious records
Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 12:28:07 by fatimaarshadA staggering truth was uncovered recently by an inquiry team which showed that more than 12,000 policemen had ‘suspicious’ records. An inquiry team had been constituted upon the orders of the Supreme Court and it was presented to the SC’s Karachi Registry on Wednesday.
An inquiry committee was created with AIG Rana Sanaullah Abbasi as the head and it was tasked to not only uncover this truth but also take action against police officers who are involved in criminal activities. The matter was so grave that the chief secretary Sindh was also summoned by the SC to sit during the proceedings.
According to reports, Justice Sajjad Shah went over the report but found that action was not being taken against the police officers who were higher up in the ranks.
During court proceedings, Justice Sajjad Shah remarked “why isn’t action being taken against police high ups?”
He added, “Do you think we are unaware of all that goes in Sindh police?”
The court ruled that it is unfair that only junior officers were under investigation and the senior officers were not scrutinized even though some of them had a hand in criminal activities.
The need for an inquiry into the police officers’ background was identified when it was discovered that a lot of officers were involved in criminal activities including murders, robberies, kidnappings and other criminal activities.
An interim report was submitted to the SC on July 6, but even at that time the court had expressed anger over inaction against high-ups in the Sindh police.
It was also noticed that FIRs were registered against the accused officers but they continued to enjoy their positions in the department.
