CJP takes suo moto notice of Multan ‘revenge rape’ case

In that incident, a village council or Panchayat ordered the rape of a 16-year-old girl because her brother had raped a 12-year-old girl.
The CJP directed the Punjab inspector general of police to submit a report in this regard and bring all the accused to justice.
According to the details of the incident provided, the event took place in Multan’s Muzaffarabad area where members of a panchayat ordered the horrific punishment for the rape case.
It was stated in the First Information Report (FIR) that a man had complained to the panchayat that his 12-year-old sister had been raped by his cousin in a field where he was cutting grass. As a punishment, the panchayat members ordered that the suspect’s sister be raped by the brother of the victim.
The girl was then dragged in front of the panchayat members and her family and raped publically.
“A jirga had ordered the rape of a 16-year-old girl as punishment, as her brother had raped a 12-year-old,” said Allah Baksh, a local police official, while talking to AFP.
When the police heard about the case, they initially arrested 10 members of the council, including its head. In the following few days, the police were able to arrest all main accused in the case, which is said to be around 20 in number.
