On Monday, a passing cyclist found a headless torso which had washed ashore in Copenhagen. He immediately called up the police who revealed on Wednesday that the torso belonged to Swedish journalist Kim Wall. The police believe that she was killed by a Danish inventor on board his home-made submarine.

Wall was researching a story on inventor Peter Madsen and she was invited by the man himself to his submarine so that she could observe everything first-hand. Madsen took her out to sea in his 17-meter submarine on August 10, and after that she was never seen. However, he denies charges of murdering her.

Several tests were conducted on the torso and it was found out that it had suffered damage suggesting “an attempt to make sure air and gas inside should leave the body so that it would not rise from the seabed”.

Police spokesman Jens Moller added: “There was also some metal attached to the body, allegedly also to make sure the body would sink to the bottom.”

The arms, legs and head had been severed from the body and it is being expected that these body parts will also eventually was ashore. Analysis showed that there was a match with Wall’s DNA which the police had gathered from a toothbrush, hairbrush and with blood found on the submarine.

Meanwhile Madsen is sticking with his story that he buried Wall at sea, after she had unexpectedly passed away in his submarine. Initially, he had said that he dropped her off alive in Copenhagen.

The police are still not sure about Wall’s cause of death or the motive to kill, so they will be continuing with their investigation.
