Body of drowned teenager recovered from Jhelum River
Friday, August 25th, 2017 8:51:28 by fatimaarshadThe body of a teenage boy, who died after jumping into the Jhelum River incited by a dare from friends, has been recovered. The body was found on Wednesday-a few days after the boy drowned.
According to the details of the incident provided, 19-year-old Ali Abrar, along with his five friends, had gone to Galyats on August 18 for a pleasure trip. They gathered at a famous picnic point called Kuneer and decided to stay there for a little while.
During their stay, the friends decided to dare Abrar to cross the Jhelum River and in exchange they promised him Rs 15,000 cash and an expensive mobile phone. A video footage surfaced of the incident in which Abrar’s friends can be heard prompting him to jump into the gushing river.
In the video, Abrar is seen jumping in the water and shortly after, the gushing stream whisks him away. He disappears from the video’s screen and after that there is no trace of him.
Rescue 1122 Kotli Satiyan section spotted his body in the river and fished it out from there. The body was handed over to Abbottabad Police (Bakaut), who after legal formalities handed it over to the aggrieved family.
All the five friends were booked under section 322 and are now on judicial remand. They will be produced before the court today.
