Religious preacher murdered over sectarian beliefs
Friday, August 25th, 2017 8:37:51 by fatimaarshadA 70-year-old member of the Tablighi Jamaat was murdered while another was critically injured over disagreement about religious beliefs in Chiniot on Wednesday.
According to the details of the incident provided by Sadar Police Station SHO Muhammad Afzal, the victim, identified as Waliur Rehman, was a resident of Old Muzaffar Colony, Karachi, and he was leading an 11-member team of a Tablighi Jamaat from Raiwind to Chiniot for preaching purposes.
The group had already covered a number of towns and cities before reaching Qila Asiyaan, located in the outskirts of Chiniot. There they camped for the night and started door-to-door preaching.
“During the course, Waliur Rehman and his group went to the house of two brothers Ikram Khan and Imran Khan, who were students of Darul Uloom Muhammadia Ghousia, Bhera, Sargodha District,” Afzal said.
He continued, “Waliur Rehman had an argument with Ikram and Imran over difference of opinion over religious beliefs.”
The SHO said, “On the day of the incident, Waliur Rehman and one of his companions Abdullah Khan were sleeping in a mosque when accused Ikram and Imran attacked them with a spade.”
“As a result, Rehman was killed on the spot while Abdullah suffered critical injuries on various parts of the body,” he said.
The injured was rushed to the Allied Hospital in Faislabad for treatment.
One of the alleged murderers, Ikram was arrested while his brother still remains at large. A case has been registered against them under sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s son-in-law.
