Three Saudi nationals drown in Karachi at Hawkesbay
Monday, August 28th, 2017 11:35:40 by fatimaarshadThree Saudi nationals, including a son of Saudi Arabia’s diplomat in Karachi, drowned off Hawkesbay beach on Saturday night. The two other victims were employees of the Saudi consulate. A total of five people had arrived at the Hawkesbay for a picnic on Saturday and they had rented a hut near Neelum point, which belonged to the Sindh governor.
All the picnic goers had gone into the sea for swimming but two out of them had been saved by officials on time.
The dead were identified as Fahad Fihan Al Usaimi, the son of consulate official; Abdullah Bin Faleh Al Subai and Alaa Bin Attiya Al Quthami, both employees of the consulate.
“They were swimming in the sea when some strong waves took them away,” Mauripur SHO Niaz told reporters.
After receiving information about the drowning, rescue services and lifeguards rushed to the spot.
“Initially two persons were recovered. One of them was already dead while the other lost his life while being taken to a hospital,” he added.
The third body was retrieved on Saturday night, added the officer.
The bodies of the victims were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Clifton and later, they were handed over to consulate officials and their relatives in the early hours of Sunday morning. The bodies will be flown to Saudi Arabia later today.
The provincial government has imposed a ban on swimming in the sea due to rough waters. However, the police could not enforce the ban at the area of the incident since it does not come under control of the local police.
