Celebrities pledge huge sums for Houston storm victims
Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 9:42:05 by fatimaarshadThe US state of Texas was hit by one of the worst storms ever called Harvey, earlier this month. The entire state is almost under water and people have lost their homes and belongings and are now scrambling to survive in a disaster stricken area.
Following the devastations caused by the storm, a number of celebrities have come forward to donate to the state so that it can be on its way to recovery. One of the most notable of the celebrities who have pledged generous but unspecified amount of aid is Beyonce, who herself is a native of Houston.
The pop superstar, in a statement to the Houston Chronicle, said she was working out details with her team and her Houston pastor “to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”
Beyonce’s networth with her rapper husband Jay-Z, is estimated to be around $1 billion. In a post on her Instagram account, Beyonce wrote that Texas was ‘in my prayers’.
Meanwhile another leading rapper, Drake, also revealed that he was “working with local relief groups to aid and assist the people of Texas in any way we can and in the most immediate way possible.”
“I encourage everyone to do what they can to assist the people of Texas knowing whatever effort you can make to help will go a long way,” Drake wrote on Instagram.
The rapper is a native of Toronto but he keeps a home in Houston.
Comedian Kevin Hart also came to the forefront of the cause by donating $25,000 to American Red Cross for relief in Houston and urging others celebrities to do the same.
“I am challenging a lot of my celebrity friends to follow my lead in donating $25,000,” Hart said.
“I think that people are in bad shape and need help, and I’m going to lead the charge,” he said.
Harvey is estimated to be the fourth costliest storm in the US as the estimated damage it has caused is more than $42 bn.
