Kate Middleton wins lawsuit over intrusive photos

There is always a price to pay for being in the public eye but in the case of British royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton, the paparazzi had to pay that price.

A French court on Tuesday ordered a French celebrity magazine to pay 100,000 euros in damages to Britain’s Prince William and his wife Kate over topless photos of the later which got published in 2012.

At that time the royal couple had gone to the south of France to spend their holidays and while the duchess was swimming in the pool with only her lower bikini, the paparazzi snapped photos of her and published them in the French magazine called Closer. The pictures were snapped with a long lens and while the images were grainy, one could still clearly tell it was Kate in them. The couple were staying at a chateau belonging to Viscount Linley, a nephew of Queen Elizabeth.

The court also ordered the magazine’s editor Laurence Pieau and publisher Ernesto Mauri to pay 45,000 euros each in fines, which is the maximum possible amount.

The royal couple had sought 1.5 million euros in damages and interest, but after the decision, they said they were happy about the verdict.

The termed the entire event a ‘serious breach of privacy’ and hoped that this case would prove to be a lesson to all such people who invade the it for publicity.

“They wished to make the point strongly that this kind of unjustified intrusion should not happen,” said a statement issued by a spokesperson.

Kate and Prince William are now expecting their third child and the announcement made the entire world very happy.
