Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 2:46:03 by fatimaarshadAn illegal kidney transplant center was shut down after it was raided by the police in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. According to the police, the facility was involved in illegal kidney transplantation and it was owned by two officers of the provincial health department.
Just behind the center, a factor producing fake medicines was also sealed and all the medicines being produced there were seized. The police also arrested seven people, including the hospital’s in-charge, urologist Dr. Abdul Aziz. The culprits have been booked and cases have been registered against them.
It has also been learnt that the center is owned by Drug Inspector Mardan, Mohammad Tayyab and Dr. Saifullah Afridi. Both these people are officials at the KP health department.
The Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) conducted these raids after gaining intelligence reports and the head of Punjab Human Organ Transplantation center, Dr. Faisal Masood appreciated the agency’s efforts.
He further said that such crimes should be immediately reported but unfortunately people do not registered complaints, hence these businesses flourish endangering the lives of innocent people.
“The cheap kidney transplantation is unhealthy and as required safety measures are not ensured in the procedures there is a huge risk of diseases like hepatitis. A number of people have lost their lives during these risky procedures,” he informed.
He further urged the government to take strict action against such illegal businesses so that others are discouraged from venturing into this area.
The FIA team will present its report on the illegal center to the government in seven days’ time.
