The world is shocked over this incident as a lone shooter was responsible for such a mass casualty.
According to the details of the incident provided, a crowd of more than 22,000 people were attending Route 91 Harvest Festival at Las Vegas by country music star Jason Aldean, when firing erupted at 10:08 pm local time.
People panicked and started running to the exit. No one could see the gunman as he was shooting from the 32nd floor of his hotel room. The gunman, identified as Stephen Craid Paddock, was staying at the Mandala Bay hotel-casino, which was right across the concert venue.
At least 59 people were killed and 527 injured when a gunman opened fire on concert-goers Sunday night in Las Vegas.
“People started grabbing their loved-ones and just strangers, and trying to help them get out of the way,” said Ralph Rodriguez, IT consultant who was at the concert with a group of friends.
According to the police, the 64-year-old gunman was a wealthy retired former accountant from Mesquite, Nevada. He did not have any previous criminal record and the authorities and his family is still baffled as to what led him to commit such a heinous crime.
Eric Paddock, the gunman´s elder brother, told local media he could not fathom what motivated him.
Stephen Paddock regularly played high-stakes video poker but was wealthy and had “no religious affiliation, no political affiliation,” the brother said.
Shortly after the deadliest attack in modern US history, reactions started pouring in from the world over and the news broke on many international channels.
In a televised address, Trump described the massacre as an “act of pure evil” but said it would not shatter the nation´s “unity.”
Trump led White House staff and senior US officials in a moment of silence on the South Lawn of the White House, and announced he would visit Las Vegas on Wednesday.
