Police told to arrest Karachi knifeman soon by Senate Committee
Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 11:15:14 by fatimaarshadThe Senate Committee on Human Rights has urged the police to employ all available resources in order to apprehend the knifeman or gang, which is involved in the stabbing of women in different parts of Karachi. So far the person or gang behind these attacks still remains elusive and everyone is left scratching their heads wondering how a criminal can remain hidden from the officials for so long.
During a session of the Senate Committee held on Tuesday, its members listened to what the police officials had to say, and despite all the explanation, no one was able to come up with a plausible solution to the problem.
According to the police sources, they had investigated lead after lead but failed to apprehend the criminal. The knifeman targets women, therefore the fear is at its peak among females in the city.
The DIG East, Sultan Khowaja told the members of the committee that till now, the police have investigated 40 patients from three mental hospitals in order to get a profile of the attacker and get further leads into the case.
On Sunday, Sindh police in collaboration with their Punjab counterparts, arrested a suspect by the name of Muhammad Waseem from Mandi Bahauddin. Initially it was speculated that Waseem is the Karachi knifeman, but now the police is not too sure as another woman was attacked with a sharp object after Waseem was arrested.
The DIG said that Waseem had 16 SIMs and several mobile phones but none of them were made to make calls from Karachi, leading to the fact that he had probably never been to the metropolis.
Members of the Senate committee advised the police to focus on thorough investigations and arrest “all those” involved in the attacks.
