Thursday, October 19th, 2017 9:19:58 by fatimaarshadThe officials at Punjab FIA Cyber Crime Department revealed on Wednesday that the division had tracked down a 14-year-old boy in Lahore to be engaged in the deadly suicide game called Blue Whale Challenge.
According to the details provided, the department released a statement in which it was told that Interpol Washington informed the Interpol National Central Bureau for Pakistan that it had detected activity related to the suicide game in the country.
Based on the intel provided, FIA Cyber Crime Lahore Deputy Director Syed Shahid Hassan formed a team comprising Assistant Director Muhammad Usman Sub-Inspector Ashir Aroon, Assistant Sub-Inspector Hafiz Zubair and Constable Tanvir to probe into the matter.
Signals picked up from the boy’s phone prompted the team to visit two locations in Gulshan-e-Ravi and Johar Town in Lahore but the suspect was not found there. Eventually, GPS coordinates picked up by the cell phone tracked him down to another location in Johar Town.
So far it is not clear whether the boy was playing the game or involved in it some other way. It was only revealed that “content related to [a] kidnapping clip/video in Snapchat” was found on the cell phone being used by the boy.
It was also found out that the teenager was using his mother’s cell phone. The Cyber Crime Department confiscated the cell phone and summoned the mother and son on October 18.
The deadly suicide game targets vulnerable youth and engages them in a challenge which has a series of bizarre and deadly activities, eventually leading to suicide. So far 100s of teenagers from around the world have taken their own lives while playing the game.
