Woman poisons milk to avenge ‘forced marriage’ killing several people

A woman belonging from Muzaffargarh was forced to marry against her will. However, instead of just accepted her fate, she chose to avenge the forced marriage by trying to poison her new husband.

Things got out of hand when instead of the husband drinking that milk, someone used it to make lassi which eventually resulted in the death of 13 people.

It has been reported that when that poisoned milk was used to make lassi, a huge quantity was prepared from it. The beverage was served to the woman’s in-laws and after drinking it, a lot of people started showing poisoning symptoms.

The incident took place in Daulat Paur area, and immediately the victims of the poisoning were rushed to the hospital. So far 13 people have died due to drinking the contaminated beverage while 14 others are still admitted at the hospital.

Initially, it was reported that a lizard had dropped into the lassi due to which it became poisonous. However, the suspect, identified as Aasia, later confessed to poisoning the milk which was meant for her husband because she wanted to marry someone else and was forced to marry him instead.

The police suspect that Aasia was helped by her lover, who is still at large. Police have registered a case against her and are conducting raids to arrest her alleged love interest.
Such cases of forced marriages are not uncommon in Pakistan. However, very few women take matters into their own hands and undertake such drastic measures.
