‘House of Cards’ to end following Spacey’s sexual misconduct allegations surfaced
Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 8:51:36 by fatimaarshadNetflix’s award winning political drama ‘House of Cards’ will end its run after an upcoming sixth season, as was announced by the streaming service on Monday. The announcement came just a day after the series lead actor, Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct by fellow actor Anthony Rapp.
This latest scandal has rocked Hollywood and it also prompted Spacey to openly admit what had been an open secret in the industry—that he is gay.
Following this episode, Netflix Inc and House of Cards’ production company also issued a joint statement saying they were ‘deeply troubled’ by Rapp’s allegation.
Netflix did not give an explicit reason for deciding to air one more season of the show which has won an Emmy Award and critical acclaim. However, a spokeswoman for the company, Karen Barragan, said that the decision had been made months ago, long before the recent drama involving Spacey emerged.
Rapp’s went public with his allegation in an interview which was recently published. He recalled how Spacey had tried to ‘seduce’ him when he was just 14-years-old in 1986. Both the actors were working on a Broadway show and Spacey invited Rapp at his house for a party.
Rapp recalled that as he was sitting in Spacey’s bedroom watching TV, the actor came in drunk and tried to lie on top of him. Rapp squirmed his way from under him and left his apartment.
Spacey initially tried to deflect the story but later apologized to Rapp for causing him trouble due to his ‘drunken behavior’. He also openly admitted that he is gay.
