Iran accuses CIA of spreading fake news through Bin Laden files
Friday, November 3rd, 2017 3:21:30 by fatimaarshadWhen Osama Bin Laden was captured by the Seals from the Pakistani city of Abbottabad in 2011, his computers and files were also confiscated by the officials.
Now according to the latest reports, some of these confiscated files have been released and the CIA has leveled allegations against Iran of being in touch with Laden.
Iran has accused the CIA of spreading this ‘fake news’ in these newly declassified files and has demanded that the agency should remain careful regarding what it is alleging.
On Wednesday, the CIA released 470,000 additional files which were found when the US Navy SEALs burst into Laden’s compound and shot him dead.
The scholars from Foundation for Defense Democracies (FDD) who were allowed to view those files before they were made public, say that the files shed light on the murky relationship between Al-Qaeda and Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif dismissed the allegations.
“A record low for the reach of petrodollars: CIA & FDD fake news w/selective AlQaeda docs re: Iran can’t whitewash role of US allies in 9/11,” he wrote on Twitter late on Thursday.
Surprisingly, the release of these files comes at a time when US President Donald Trump’s administration is seeking to increase pressure on Iran, refusing to certify a landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
The Fars news agency, said Thursday that the selective publication of documents by the CIA related to Al-Qaeda was part of efforts “to put pressure on Iran”.
