Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 11:33:41 by fatimaarshadA zoo in Russia’s westernmost city of Kaliningrad became the talk of the town when a deadly tiger attack took place there on Sunday.
According to the details provided, a tiger pounced on an unsuspecting zookeeper and injured it. The tiger had managed to escape from an inner enclosure and pounce on the keeper who was not aware of its presence in that area.
The powerful Siberian tiger which attacked is also known as Amur Tiger and it is native to Russia and Chines. The big cat lives in dense snowy forests and is a dangerous predator.
It has been reported that the keeper ‘entered the enclosure of one of the two Amur Tigers kept at the zoo and was cleaning it when the tiger pounced on her.
A visitor named Victoria witnessed the incident firsthand and told the reporters about it. She said that the tiger ‘slashed the zookeeper’s arms and she tried to defend herself.’
With no other staff in the area to intervene, “the tiger attack lasted about ten minutes,” another witness said.
Visitors threw stones and then tables and chairs from a nearby restaurant at the tiger, trying to distract it to allow the victim to escape.
Finally the keeper managed to enter a safe zone.
The keeper was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was given treatment. According to the latest update, the keeper is still at the hospital but is now out of danger.
The attacker named Typhoon is 16-years-old and has spent all but a year of her life at the zoo. This is the first time that she has ever attacked a human being. Investigations have been opened in the case and administrative and criminal charges will be probed.
