Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 10:02:10 by fatimaarshadA 40-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter had to jump off a fully-speeding train in India in order to escape a group of men who were trying to rape the teenage girl. The incident took place on Saturday night on the Howrah-Jodhpur Express.
It has been reported that the mother and daughter were travelling alone, going to Kolkata from Delhi. At around 10 pm, five men attacked the girl when she was going towards the toilet. When the mother heard her daughter scream, she rushed towards the group and fought with the men before finally jumping off the moving train with her daughter.
“In the struggle, my daughter’s clothes were torn. We had to jump off as we had no choice,” the mother said. This happened when the train was between Chandari and Kanpur railway stations. The two fell unconscious after jumping and remained in the same state for nearly two hours.
After they regained consciousness, the injured mother and daughter walked to the Chandari Railway station where people saw them and immediately rushed them to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
The incident came into the Government Railway Police (GRP) knowledge late on Sunday. “We are in the process of registering an FIR [first information report] on the complaint,” said Ram Mohan Rai, SHO, GRP Kanpur, according to Hindustan Times.
In her complaint, the mother reported that around 10-15 men were on-board the train who were behaving mischievously and harassed her daughter soon after the journey began. The mother complained about the men to constables at two different stations but the group would always get away after bribing cops. “The men got aggressive and kept threatening me, they would drug my daughter and sell her,” she further added.
Eventually the resorted to trying to rape the girl but thankfully the mother’s prompt action saved her.
