It’s a known fact that non-Muslims are barred from entering the Holy city of Makkah, however, people also assume that they cannot even enter religious sites in Medina, which is not the case.

That is why when an Israeli man posted a picture of himself in the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Mosque in Medina, the entire social media got into a frenzy.

Russian born Ben Tzion is a Jew, who has a history of posting images at religious locations across the Middle East from Iran to Jordan. Most recently, he posted a picture of himself inside Masjid-e-Nabwi, on his Facebook page.

In a Facebook post, he wrote: “People of Saudi Arabia would stand with the Jewish nation side by side”. “Peace in the Middle East with respect and love towards each other”, another of his posts stated.

In an interview with an Israeli newspaper, he referred to his penchant for visiting Muslim countries as “a hobby” and reiterated his “respect for other cultures and faiths”.

Tzion is a citizen of both Russia and Israel but he did not disclose which passport he used to travel to Saudi Arabia. However, he has stressed that he has always travelled legally and with all the required paperwork.

“No-one in the Arab world ever approached me with hostility,” he said. “They tell me they love Israel and the Jewish people.”

However, the Muslims did not take well with this move and within 24 hours of the picture being posted, hashtag ‘A Zionist at the Prophet’s Mosque’ has gone viral.

The backlash also prompted Instagram to delete Tzion’s official account. It was still not restored till the filing of this report.
