Protests erupt in different cities after Islamabad crackdown against picketers
Saturday, November 25th, 2017 12:44:47 by fatimaarshadEarly on Saturday morning, police started a crackdown against the protestors who have been staging a sit-in at Faizabad for the past three weeks. The clean-up operation is still underway in Islamabad but according to reports, several similar demonstrations have started in different cities of Pakistan.
According to reports provided, protestors have started gathering at key points across the country including Karachi, Lahore, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Azad Kashmir, Tando Allahyar, Jacobabad, Chakwal, Sabrial, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
In Karachi, protestors who had gathered at Numaish Chowrangi, shut down the access roads and forcefully closed all the shops in the area. Police and rangers were deployed to disperse the gathering crowds but till now, there are still a lot of people gathered there.
Reports have confirmed protests are taking place near Jillani Centre near Tower, on Hasan Square, at Star Gate as well as in Sohrab Goth. Angered mob has also blocked the main road link between Karachi and Hyderabad.
Police in Islamabad have used tear gas shelling, rubber bullets and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators but they continue to offer resistance to the forces. Clashes turned violent and as a result, a police officer was also martyred while several others got injured.
Heavy contingents of police, FC and Rangers have been deployed to control the crowds and clear the sit-in area, where the people of Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah have been staging a protest for the past three weeks. Due to this protest, life in the Twin Cities has been greatly affected and the citizens have been complaining of difficulties in their normal lives.
