House of Cards does away with Kevin Spacey
Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 9:51:14 by fatimaarshadNetflix’s most acclaimed political drama House of Cards had Kevin Spacey as the main character in the show. However, after the sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against the actor, the producers have cast him away from the show and the last season of the drama will focus on Robin Wright, who played the character of Claire Underwood.
According to the details provided, Wright will play the character of US’s first female president and production of the show will start in 2018. This is going to be the show’s sixth and last season and instead of the usual 13 episodes, this season will just have eight.
All these interesting facts were delivered by Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Tedd Sarandos at the UBS 45th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference in New York. Sarandos fell short of elaborating how Spacey’s character will be eliminated from the show.
Netflix Inc ended all ties with Spacey in November after the allegations against him surfaced. In the show, Spacey played the character of Frank Underwood who has become the US president after his conniving scheming and plotting.
“We have made an arrangement to produce six seasons of House of Cards. It will be an eight-episode season. It will start production in early 2018 and it will not involve Kevin Spacey,” Sarandos said.
A representative for Spacey did not respond to a request for comment.
Claire Underwood — Wright’s character — finished season five by winning election as the first US female president after wresting power from her husband.
Wright has won a Golden Globe for her role and earned five Emmy nominations.
