Jadhav’s wife, mother meet him after Pakistan grants permission on humanitarian grounds

The wife and mother of Kulbushan Jadhav were allowed to meet him in Islamabad on Monday after Pakistan granted permission for the meeting on humanitarian grounds.

Jadhav is on death row for having been involved in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan on its own soil.

According to the details provided, Jadhav’s mother, Avanti Jadhav and wife, Chentankil Jadhav, arrived in Pakistan on Monday from flight EK-612 which landed at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. The duo was accompanied by India’s Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh.

The meeting lasted for 40 minutes and it took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where elaborate security arrangements were put in place.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan permitted the convicted Indian spy to meet his family members on humanitarian grounds on the day of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’ birth.

The spokesperson for the FO Dr Mohammad Faisal, on Monday, also clarified that Pakistan has not given any consular access to Jadhav.

According to Express News, Dr Faisal said, “The presence of JP Singh in the meeting of the Indian spy with his family members should not be considered consular access.”

Jadhav’s case is being heard at the International Court of Justice. He was arrested from Balochistan in March 2016 by security forces. Later, he admitted to working for RAW to create violence in Pakistan.

Later in April, he was given the death sentence by a military tribunal on charges of espionage and his involvement in subversive and terrorist activities. His mercy petition is still pending before the army chief.
