Former Taliban prisoner Joshua Boyle arrested for multiple charges
Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 3:34:11 by fatimaarshadJoshua Boyle made headlines earlier in 2017 for being held captive for nearly five years by Afghan Taliban, along with his wife and children. However, now he is making headlines again for getting arrested in Ottawa for 15 charges including assault.
Joshua Boyle, his wife Caitlin Coleman and their three children arrived back in Canada last October, after being saved by the Pakistani forces in a rescue operation which was initiated after getting intel from US officials.
After being saved, Boyle claimed that one of his children had been murdered and his wife was raped after their capture by the Haqqani network. Both these allegations were refuted by the Taliban.
Ever since Boyle and his family got saved, they remained out of the limelight up till now. Canadian police recently slapped the former captive with 15 charges including eight counts of assault, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of forcible confinement and one count of uttering death threats.
A publication ban has been imposed, preventing the alleged victims from being identified. It is not clear whether his wife or children have been victims of his alleged crimes.
“Mr. Boyle is presumed innocent. He’s never been in trouble before. We look forward to receiving the evidence and defending him against these charges,” Boyle’s lawyer, Eric Granger, said in an email.
Boyle has been in police custody since December 30. He is expected to make a brief court appearance on Wednesday.
