Famous chef Zubaida Tariq passes away at 72
Friday, January 5th, 2018 11:50:38 by fatimaarshadPakistan’s famous TV personality and chef Zubaida Tariq, also known as Zubaida Aapa, passed away at the age of 72 last night. According to her close family, she suffered a brief period of illness and eventually breathed her last on Thursday night. Her funeral prayers will be held at Sultan Masjid, in Karachi’s DHA area, after the Friday prayers.
Zubaida Aapa not only taught people some great Desi recipes, but she also gave out brilliant home remedies or totkas, for which she became very famous. She was regarded as a learned cook and many benefited from her scrumptious recipes.
Zubaida Aapa was born to Urdu-speaking family at Hyderabad Deccan in United India in 1945. She was just two years old when her family migrated from India and settled in Karachi, Pakistan.
The deceased chef had nine siblings including some very famous names such as playwright Fatima Surayya Bajiya, poetess Zehra Nigah and her famous brother Anwar Maqsood, who is one of the leading satirists and actors of the country.
Social media flooded with condolences as soon as her death was reported. Many famous people including; celebrities, singers, sportspersons and politicians reacted to her death.
“Known her since I was a little girl.. she was all heart, always..,” actor Mahira Khan paid her a nostalgic tribute.
“Deeply saddened by the news of passing away of renowned chef & a great human being Zubaida Apa. She was a household name, thanks to her amazing expertise in cooking. May Allah Almighty bless her soul in peace and grant patience to her family!” tweeted Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif.
Aapa made her TV debut back in 1996 when she was in her 50s, in a show called Dalda ka Dastarkhwan. After that there was no going back for her as she continued to appear on TV shows till before she fell ill.
“I know people will remember me well,” she once said.
“I tell my husband if I die, please have this inscribed on my tombstone: Zubaida Aapa totkay wali.”
