French court gives eviction orders to Malika Sherawat for non-payment of rent
Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 1:36:10 by fatimaarshadA French court has ordered that Bollywood actor Malika Sherawat and her husband be evicted from an apartment located in a posh part of Paris for failing to keep up with rent payments.
It was reported that a ruling was given out by the French court on December 14, according to which the court told Sherawat and her French husband Cyrille Auxenfans to pay 78,787 euros ($94,000) in rent owed and expenses, giving the green light for their furniture to be seized.
The couple began renting the apartment in the pricey 16th district on January 1, 2017, for a monthly sum of 6,054 euros. However, the owner claims that they never paid the rent and only made a single payment of 2,175 euros.
According to sources, the couple’s lawyer said during November 14 hearing that they were in financial difficulty. The lawyer emphasized the “irregular” nature of Sherawat’s work – an argument dismissed by the owners of the apartment who claimed she had earned tens of millions during the rental period.
An interesting bit of the story is that Sherawat has denied owning any flat in Paris. “It’s absolutely not true, if someone has donated one to me, please send me the address,” she tweeted in response to media reports about the case.
Earlier in December, Sherawat had told reporters; “I do not live in Paris, neither do I own an apartment there nor rent one. I do not know why my name is being dragged into this. I am in Mumbai now. Before this, I was in Los Angeles with my family. Anybody who does not believe me can check my Instagram and Twitter posts for themselves.”
