Pakistani actress Saba Qamar opens up about being ‘humiliated’ at international airports
Thursday, January 18th, 2018 12:49:54 by fatimaarshadFamed Pakistani actress Saba Qamar recently opened up about being ‘humiliated’ at international airports for the sole reason of being Pakistani. In a newly released video clip, the actress shares her ordeal of facing constant security checks at international airports because of carrying a Pakistani passport.
“The way we are checked… I can’t tell you. I feel so humiliated when they check each and everything,” she said.
The Hindi Medium actress shared a recent ordeal she faced when she travelled to Tbilisi, which is the capital of Georgia. The actress and model had gone there for a shoot.
“I remember for a shooting I went to Tbilisi. All the Indian crew members with me were allowed to go. But I was stopped. My passport had stopped me. I was fully investigated, and then an interview was held after which I was allowed to go.”
She further added, “That day I realized this is the respect we get. This is our position. Where do we stand?”
It is not unusual for Pakistani nationals to go through tight security checks at international airports around the world. Some of the travelers are kept for interrogations for long durations of time and at times, even sent back to their home countries.
However, little is said or done about this mistreatment and Qamar’s video has sparked an online debate of this behavior. Many people shared their own experiences of how they were made to feel inferior to other people due to carrying the green passport.
Qamar made a big name for herself in the Pakistani drama industry with her superior acting skills in a number of drama serials including; Udaan, Maat, Digest Writer, Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai, Dastaan and Baaghi among countless others.
She made her Bollywood debut opposite Indian actor Irfan Khan in the movie Hindi Medium.
