Police ‘encounter’ results in the death of South Waziristan man believed to be innocent
Thursday, January 18th, 2018 1:11:23 by fatimaarshadA massive outcry erupted on the social media after news emerged of the killing of a South Waziristan man in a police ‘encounter’. Many believe that the man was unjustly killed in a staged encounter by the police in order to show their ‘performance’.
The man in question belonged to South Waziristan and he was identified as 27-year-old Naqeebullah. He was among four other suspects who were killed in an encounter headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar in the Usman Khashkheli Goth on the outskirts of Karachi last week.
After the encounter, Anwar had alleged that the suspects were involved in several high-profile terror cases and had affiliations with terrorist outfits Lashkhar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) and militant Islamic State (IS).
On the other hand, Naqeebullah’s relatives claim that he was just a shop owner in Karachi who had a love for modelling and he had no associations with the militants.
One of Naqeebullah’s relatives told reporters that he was taken away from his shop in Sohrab Goth earlier this month by people wearing plain clothes, earlier this month. He said that the deceased had worked at a petrol pump at Hub Chowki in Balochistan, before moving to Karachi.
Several pictures of Naqeebullah are also available on his Facebook page, in which he can be seen modelling for the camera.
Naqeeb’s relatives had approached the Chhipa Welfare Association on Wednesday to claim his body and his funeral will be held soon.
On the other hand, SSP Rao claims to have targeted the right individual as he proved his association with the militant group through a document detailing his path to militancy.
However, many people take SSP Rao’s claims with a pinch of salt as he is known to ‘stage’ encounters in order to show his spectacular performance.
