Friday, January 19th, 2018 12:55:35 by fatimaarshadThe entire nation is closely watching the case pertaining to seven-year-old rape and murder victim from Kasur, Zainab Fatima Ameen.
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been constituted to apprehend the culprits involved in the heinous crimes and according to the latest reports, two more suspects have been taken into custody on Thursday.
The suspects were arrested in the identification of Umar Farooq, who was arrested near Bhatta Chowk on Wednesday by Lahore Police. The suspect had been handed over to the JIT for further investigations. The suspect’s mobile data showed him to be in Kasur at the time when Zainab went missing. Earlier, he had also confessed to killing a minor after raping her.
Farooq’s DNA samples and polygraph test results were also sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) and now the results are awaited.
All the arrested suspects reportedly lived in a house near the site where Zainab’s body was found.
In addition, nine teams established by the JIT were busy collecting samples of DNA from people living in the vicinity of the victim’s house. JIT was also busy analyzing data of the census.
Despite having so many leads, a breakthrough still has to be made in the case, and according to an investigator, the ‘JIT was still groping in the dark’.
On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif also visited DPO Kasur office. The JIT briefed him about their efforts to solve the case. After the meeting, the chief minister told the media that the JIT was working on important leads but definite time to arrest the suspect cannot be given.
