Stepmother kills daughter over minor issue in Shangla

A man’s second wife, killed his daughter from a previous marriage because they used to quarrel regularly. According to the details provided, the woman has confessed to the crime after trying to hide it from everyone.

The incident took place earlier this month in Chakesar tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district. The police revealed the details of the incident on Wednesday and also revealed that the main culprit in this case is in custody.

The Chakesar District Police Officer (DPO) told reporters that the woman was arrested by the police on murder charges and she later confessed to killing her daughter before a local court. The DPO Shangla, Rahatullah Khan further gave details of the incident telling reporters that the victim was an 11-year-old girl who was strangled to death by her stepmother.

Later, the stepmother and the real father buried the girl’s body secretly at their ancestral graveyard in Lensook area of Chakesar tehsil. However, the child’s sudden death raised suspicions among family and neighbors. The police was alerted after which the DPO said that he “directed the station house officer Chakesar to launch an inquiry [of the case] under the supervision of SP Investigation Shangla Khalid Khan”.

The inquiry began a week ago after exhumation of the girl’s body and a medical report later revealed signs of physical torture on the victim, he added.

The girl’s father also recorded a statement with the police in which he said that his daughter had been killed by his second wife over a domestic dispute. He said that he kept silent about the incident and even helped his wife bury the girl.

The accused woman told both police and the court that she had killed her stepdaughter because she used to quarrel with her regularly over minor issues. The woman confessed that she killed the girl by strangulating her late at night.

Police have lodged a first information report (FIR) against the accused and after producing her before the local court, she has been sent to prison.
