How was Zainab’s murderer caught?
Thursday, January 25th, 2018 8:11:59 by fatimaarshadEver since it was announced on Tuesday that seven-year-old rape and murder victim, Zainab’s murderer was caught by the police, everyone has been wondering how he was caught.
According to the details provided, two large buttons on either side of Zainab’s alleged murderer’s jacket played a major role helping the police capture him.
A police officer who was part of the investigations talked to reporters, telling them how the murderer, Imran Ali, was captured by the police.
The officer elaborated that Kasur district has a total population of over 3 million people out of which 0.7 million live in Kasur City. After taking out women, children and old men from the total, the number comes down to 60 to 70 thousand men—out of which they had to arrest one suspect.
The police further narrowed down the search to 1,110 men who lived around the same area where the crime was committed. The Pakistan Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) collected DNA samples of all of these men and compared each with that of Zainab’s rapist. It was during this process that Imran Ali’s DNA matched with that found on Zainab’s body.
When police went to Imran’s house to arrest him, they found a jacket with two large buttons—the same one which the suspect was wearing in the CCTV footage. Later, Imran’s mother and paternal uncle confirmed that the jacket belonged to Imran and they had their suspicions regarding his involvement in the crime.
After Imran was captured, he admitted to raping and killing eight underage girls. He said that he murdered five of his victims in under-construction houses, whereas three others, including Zainab, were raped and murdered close to the trash dump where their bodies were found.
