DNA report confirms Aasma was raped before being killed

Just as the main culprit behind the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab from Kasur has been captured, another similar case has emerged from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). According to the details provided the body of a four-year-old girl was discovered from Mardan in KPK.

Initially, the police had reported that the girl had just been murdered. However when an autopsy was conducted it was found out that she had also been raped. The girl has been identified as Aasma and she had been kidnapped from her hometown of Gujjar Garhi area on January 13. Her body was discovered the next day in sugarcane fields.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo moto notice of the rape and murder case of the minor girl and has ordered a thorough investigation into the case. The CJP has also summoned a report from Inspector General Police KPK in 24 hours.

DNA tests were conducted from the samples taken from Aasma’s body. The samples have been sent to Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) for testing and DG Dr. Ashraf Tahir said that the samples taken from Aasma and the crime scene prove that the little girl was assaulted before her death.

One person’s DNA was found on Aasma’s body which confirms the rape, the official said, adding that the next stage in the investigation would be to match the DNA samples taken from around 200 people in the case to track down the suspect.

It has also been reported that the Mardan police has already sent samples of around 200 people to the lab for matching them with those found on Aasma’s body. A report detailing the DNA tests and their results so far has been sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, he added.
