According to the victim’s family, Aasma was returning home with her sister-in-law and had just gotten out of the rickshaw when Afridi shot her thrice. He had been waiting outside her house along with his brother, Sadiquallah Afridi.
Aasma was rushed to the hospital but she passed away soon after on Sunday. After carrying out the murder, both the Afridi brothers took a flight to Saudi Arabia through Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad.
Police said that the Interpol has been contacted through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to assist in Afridi’s arrest.
Earlier today, an inquiry committee was formed on the orders of IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to probe the murder of the medical college student. Aasma’s family has alleged that the accused, Mujahid Afridi had issued threats in the past as well.
In a disturbing video made prior to her passing, Aasma revealed the name of her attacker. “Mujahid Afridi, Mujahid Afridi,” Aasma is heard saying.
It has also been reported that Afridi is the nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district president Aftab Alam. However, Alam himself condemned the tragic death and assured the family that everything will be done to bring the criminal to justice.
