Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 9:32:55 by fatimaarshadThe Supreme Court on Monday announced that it will constitute a new three-member inquiry committee to determine the accuracy of Dr Shahid Masood’s claims that Zainab’s murderer is part of an international pornography racket and he has 37 bank accounts in his name.
The committee will be headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Bashir Memon and comprise Intelligence Bureau Joint Director (Islamabad) Anwar Ali and Islamabad Police Assistant Inspector General (Operation Division) Asmatullah Junejo.
The committee may seek assistance from any senior officer of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for probing into the alleged bank accounts of suspect Imran Ali as well as other experts whom it may consider helpful for the purpose of conducting its inquiry and probing the issue.
The committee will also consider the material provided by Dr Masood for the inquiry and will submit its report within a period of 30 days.
Seven-year-old girl from Kasur, Zainab, was raped and killed by a suspect who is now in police custody. Imran Ali was captured by the police after two weeks of the horrific incident taking place.
After Imran’s capture, Dr. Masood made these claims about him during his talk show. He also said that a federal minister was also part of this ring but did not name anyone. The SC took notice of these allegations on January 24 and summoned the anchor to the court. He then provided the court with names of the suspect’s alleged accomplices, including that of the federal minister.
Upon investigations, it was found out that Imran Ali did not have any accounts in his name. However, the court announced the constitution of a new committee after Dr. Masood expressed of lack of trust in the one formed by the Punjab government.
