However, tragedy struck shortly after when the mother passed away even before being able to take her daughters home.
The incident took place in the southern state of Kerala on Monday and since then it has brought tears to the eyes of many.
The parents, identified as Shishupalan and Sheeba, 42, had always wanted children but despite their best efforts, they could not conceive. The couple went through various fertility treatments and at last, Sheeba conceived twins after 18 years of trying and she gave birth to them at a private hospital in Thellakam on February 1.
When the babies were delivered, one of them were found to be underweight and shifted to an incubator.
Sheeba started breast-feeding the other child and was set to leave the hospital on Tuesday when a day earlier, tragedy struck.
According to the details provided, Sheeba started feeling dizzy due to low blood pressure and was quickly provided ventilator support. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, she could not be saved and she passed away on Monday.
The children remain in the hospital even as Sheeba’s body was taken for funeral rights on Tuesday.
Meanwhile Shishupalan is heartbroken over the passing of his wife’s death. The couple had envisioned a beautiful future with their daughters together but sadly, that will not happen.
Kerala leads the country on various health parameters including a low infant mortality and high maternal health.
