Asma Jahangir’s funeral set to take place in Lahore

A number of prominent figures from politics, legal fraternity and even entertainment industry are expected to attend her last rites today.
Jahangir was known as a fearless fighter who would speak up for the marginalized segments of the society. She co-founded the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and was known to perform social work throughout her life.
According to the details provided, the lawyer passed awat on Sunday after suffering from a cardiac arrest. She was 66-years-old. Her body was transported to her house in Gulberg from the hospital where it was kept in a morgue.
The news of Jahangir’s death came as a shock for everyone as she did not seem to be suffering from any health problems. In fact, the lawyer had been working even in the last days leading to her demise and was apparently doing well.
Various dignitaries including; Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid demanded that Jahangir’s last rites be performed with full state honors.
Condolences for the legendary icon poured in from all quarters of society and even the social media was flooded with people sharing condolences and memories of Asma Jahangir.
Born in Lahore on January 27, 1952, Jahangir completed her bachelors of arts and law from Lahore and then went on to pursue higher legal studies from Switzerland, Canada and US.
She taught constitutional law at Quaid-e-Azam Law College, Lahore.
